What Makes Jingdezhen Clay Unique?

Unlike ordinary ceramic clays, Jingdezhen's natural deposits possess distinct mineral properties that have been refined by geography and time:

Kaolin-Rich Composition

The primary clay, "gaoling土" (kaolin), contains a high percentage of kaolinite (Al₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄), giving it:

Low iron content → Pure white firing (critical for fine porcelain)
High plasticity → Allows delicate shaping without cracking

Compared to other clays (e.g., stoneware or earthenware), Jingdezhen kaolin fires at ~1300–1400°C, resulting in denser, more vitrified ceramics.

Petuntse (Porcelain Stone) – The "Bone" of Porcelain

Mixed with kaolin in traditional "二元配方" (binary formula), petuntse (feldspathic rock) acts as a flux, creating:
